Ohh, thanks so much for this! My kiddo has total solid food aversion, only safe food is orange juice (getting by with Elecare so far), and the insurance company is denying feeding therapy, so this is very helpful! I am a dietitian, but the OT part is outside of my area -- it has been really difficult trying to get him to move along at home. His oral aversions sound a lot like your son's, so I hope some of these will work for us. We've been doing the dried bean and sand thing, but the scrubby...

RD mama, we're in Austin too. We ended up paying out of pocket for Matthew's OT, but he also only needed six sessions before they "graduated" him to us handling it at home. We went to OT Connection in Pflugerville, and they were great. The initial eval was quite a bit (I can't remember if it was $150 or more than that), and then each session was $70. My best suggestion is to remember that eating is more for practice at this age. Trying not making it about eating for a few weeks. Just give it to him, let him play, make it fun, get messy, eat in front of him, but just to do it, don't encourage him. Eventually, he will take a little nibble again. He will see right through all of your attempts to trick him and just become even more obstainant. Just pretend that it isn't a big deal to eat and maybe he will come around. Hang in there mama! I...

I completely agree. We used to ignore Carter while he was sitting in the highchair with his food, when he hwss refusing food. If we paid attention to him, he would refuse to touch anything we put in front of him. But if I put him in his chair with some food while I empited the dishwasher or folded clothes, he was much more likely to take a nibble or two. It's frustrating, but its all part of the game. Good luck!

Refusing to Eat :(

I had a champion eater until he threw up the other day...now we can't even trick him into opening his mouth for food (the tricks work a couple times, then he catches on and can't be tricked anymore). We've tried tempting him with his paci,...
