Re: Neocate Nutra?

CoopersMumma ·
I'm only new here but thought I would share my experience with Nutra... my son cannot tolerate corn flour or corn (other than in Neocate formula and Nutra)... Nutra is a complete food particularly for babies / kids who cant really eat and definitely is a godsend for those kids.. We tried it but Cooper didnt really like it and he is still drinking his Neocate so I stopped the Nutra.... our dietician and our team of paeds prefer babies dont have Nutra unless really necessary - but I'm in Australia

If he has enough foods to practice with, I might just wait on it. But again, that is me. We were on 6 foods just before B was 18 months and spent forever on 3-4. I think if there isn't anything to practice with or if it is the only way to fill a specific vitamin gap, I would push it more. But of course, you have to make the final call and you are a smart mama.

This is going to sound crazy, but my daughter could not tolerate Neocate Nutra and ended up at the cardiologist because the Neocate Nutra was causing her to have tatychardic episodes!! Anyone else experience something similar?

No, I think your perspective is right on. It can be great for oral skills, for allowing food on no-food diet, and for adding some nutrition as it is basically Neocate with corn starch added. That being said, there are kids that don't tolerate it- either for the corn trigger or for just that corn is too difficult to digest on a sensitive intestines.

Hi Jill, I was wondering if you could share a little more about acidic urine. I had never heard of this being a symptom, but on a few occasions I have questioned a UTI because my little one seemed to be in pain when she urinated. And sometimes her urine seems to be more foul smelling. She did have a urine sample taken in august and didn't have a UTI.

Hi Janinne!! The acidic urine isn't a very common symptom (correct me if I'm wrong anyone!!). I have always noted the foul smelling urine off and on with my daughter, but I never really linked it to food trials. A big symptom for her is a horrible rash within minutes of the poop touching her skin. I then started seeing that the rash/burn was more towards the front of her diaper, where the poop doesn't touch or when her diaper was just wet. When we first began the broccoli trial, we thought...

And YES! I have questioned the possibility of a UTI as well! Now I understand that for HER, it is a symptom that goes along with food/food trials. There is a test called the Organic Acid Test (OAT) that is out there as well. I think it's more on the lines of a functional medicine test, I'm not sure if regular pediatritians would do it?? We are discussing this with our functional med dr and she is looking into it. Here is a link if you are interested in learning more about it: ...

Re: FPIES changes to more chronic as they get older?

EFoster ·
This has definately been the case for our 4.5 year old daughter. We started having more chronic food reactions at around 2.5 years old. We lost almost all of her safe foods at around 3.5 years. Most but no all are now chronic and some have turned IgE. Our daughter wasn't dx'd until age four and we use a rotation diet to give her more variety and to hopefully keep her from building reactions to foods.

Neocate Nutra?

AmandaB ·
So, our allergist wants us to trial Neocate Nutra.  I understand that the proteins are already broken down, and that it's iron fortified.  Are the texture and the iron the only things in the pro category?  I see that it has lots of...

NO more broccoli =(

Jill ·
Tuesday night, we gave Brynn a tiny bit of broccoli. She hasn't had it for a few weeks as we were not sure if it was broccoli or an 'overdose' of either the broccoli or blueberries.  Well, it was the broccoli. It's so strange. She had a couple...
