8 year old (just diagnosed) refusing food challenge

SonyaG ·
Hi! So long story short, my child has FPIES to egg. She had most classic symptoms as a baby (NOW I know!) evolving into chronic but less explosive vomiting, diarhhea and stomach pains. Symptoms got slightly more moderate around 3 or 4 years old but worsened a lot at five with projectile vomiting every single day. Her old doctor having retired, we had been without care for a while when a new doctor took her as a patient and discovered she hadn't grown in two years. He suspected eosinophilic...

I actually agree with your daughter on this one. If she's not ready for the challenge I wouldn't force her. She seems happy right now. And I would find another allergist who is familiar with FPIES simply due to the fact of poor bedside manners. Yes, your daughter may come in contact again with eggs. But two things will happen. You'll either see if she's not allergic anymore, or she will be and Just be prepared to administer what she needs. No one says she has to have eggs. And if strict...

We have learned our lesson in forcing food which was, don't do it. I don't know what it is with kids but they have a sense for things that don't work. I'm sure the most recent episode was quite scary. I found myself at a beach rental shack with three young ones (baby/2/3) when my FPIES'er started going white, eyes rolled back and that was it. . . Society being what it has become, no one came to help. Keep being aware of where you are and how you would get help, you can't exactly bandaid this...

And honestly, in short, you will be lucky to find a reliable medical professional to be very helpful. Be prepared to simply take this one in your own hands for the most part. You know what's right and if you are hard pressed to analyze this out, keep trying to find someone.

6-month-old recently diagnosed

Jennifer Giambi ·
Hi all! My 6-month-old son Gus was recently diagnosed as FPIES to rice, as well as having a positive IgE reaction to eggs. We are in the process of trialing foods. I was wondering if anyone could help us come up with a food plan of action. His safe foods are below: carrots sweet potatoes apples bananas pears avocado peas Squash - in the process of testing. He loves to eat and we would like to make sure he continues to grow and get all the nutrients he needs. Any help would be great! Edit: He...

Three year old, considering egg trial

BookishMom ·
hello everyone, I am hoping for a little more insight into a possible upcoming food trial...at approx 8 months old, our son was diagnosed with FPIES, egg being his only trigger food. We have easily removed egg from his diet and he's been happy and thriving. The last exposure was 02/2016, we were at a friend's house and a plate of brownies was put in front of him and he naturally took one like every other kiddo at the table. A bite or two occurred before I lunged across the room. As you know,...

Most well versed FPIES doctors recommend you wait 18 months to 2 years after your last reaction to retrial a trigger. I would wait at least that longer maybe longer if the reaction was bad. If the hypothesis that reactions are Tcell mediated is correct you have to give the body enough time to regenerate new Tcells over and over each time forgetting to react a little more until they forget entirely. This is my simplistic way of explaining a complex body system.

Wow- thanks everyone for the useful information both here and on facebook. My 2-year-old son with FPIES (multiple-food failure) has never had eggs, and I was wondering how to go about trialing it. Baked goods sound like a good first bet. My allergist has urged me to do retrials even though my "mommy gut" was saying no. (I did one retrial after 1 year and the food failed again.) Thanks for the information about waiting until age 3 with a good 18 mos.-2 years after the last reaction. Good advice!
