Published papers on elemental reactions?

Janinne ·
Does anyone know of any published papers on reactions to elemental formula? I have seen many moms mention they think their little ones react, but doctors don't seem to think it is possible.

Re: A word on Shock

I am very sorry to hear that you have been having to watch your little Sam go through all of this. How scary! We have seen color changes, rapid breathing, and clamminess but not necessarily related to reactions to foods. I am trying to make some sense of it all. I hope Sam is feeling better very soon, and that you get some much needed answers from all of this.

Thank you for your responses. As with some of our other reactions, she seemed considerably better after about 48 hours, but sleep seems to continue to be disrupted for about 5 more days.

Hi Jill, I was wondering if you could share a little more about acidic urine. I had never heard of this being a symptom, but on a few occasions I have questioned a UTI because my little one seemed to be in pain when she urinated. And sometimes her urine seems to be more foul smelling. She did have a urine sample taken in august and didn't have a UTI.

Timeline for reaction?

Janinne ·
I know this is almost impossible to answer, since every child is different and there are so many variables when we try to rule out the trigger foods in our diets, but I thought I would ask anyway... How long after you eat a trigger food do you notice...

Re: Reaction to Elecare?

Janinne ·
RadN4, did the new Elecare contain dha/ara, that the original one did not? I read about it last spring and saw that the neonate had dha added in and thought that may have been the problem. I just ordered Elecare for infants to try again and it looks like they just started adding it in there, too. Just a thought...

Re: Reaction to Elecare?

So sorry for you and for Carter. Nika seemed to have a very similar to Neocate last spring. Our GI dr gave us Neocate, Elecare, And Elecare vanilla to trial. I mixed 20% formula with 80% breast milk on a number of occasions, a few days or weeks apart, while I was working part-time last spring. It was a struggle to get her to drink the bottles and she seemed to react to all of them by waking in the middle of the night in pain, unable to sleep, and having difficult middle of the night poops.

Yes! N gets "weirdly hyper" too! Punch drunk! That's it! Sounds better than the drugs I used to describe her mood!

Sleep disruptions

Janinne ·
Hello, I was wondering if your little ones experience sleep disruptions during food trials. How would you describe their changes in sleep, and does it always signify a fail, or just an adjustment period? Thank you!

Re: Nursing Older Toddlers

Janinne ·
Both of you are amazing mamas for breastfeeding for so long! Were you dairy free the entire time? I find it so hard at times. Amanda, I am curious if you jumped right in and had the meal (and desserts!) you were craving on the very first day she was fully weaned, or did you slowly reintroduce foods you had eliminated from your diet. Did your body seem to react to the reintroduction of foods? I only ask because I used to live on lactaid pills for my own lactose intolerance, but my stomach...

Re: Prep for endoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy

Hi, We are in the process of scheduling. I don't think it will be too soon, but I wanted to start mentally preparing for the procedure. We have to be cleared through cardiology first for an unrelated issue, and the appointment for that is in a week and a half. Thanks so much for checking in! -Janinne

Hi Amanda! It's me, nikasmommy23! You actually recommended the team in Boston and I still can't thank you enough! I am SO happy we decided to take her there. The 2hour trip is definitly worth it every time (and I usually try to squeeze in a quick visit with family or friends while we are there).

Prep for endoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy

Janinne ·
Please fill me in on the preparation for endoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy. What did you have to give your child the day before to clear his/her system? What was it like? Any helpful tips? My daughter is 11 months. Will I be able to breastfeed up...
