Finding an FPIES Doctor
Update to this post: I started a submission form so that all the FPIES parents out there can share their doctor's info with each other. Hopefully it can help you! http://fpies.bofferding.net/who-is-your-fpies-doctor.html So, we...

Re: Finding an FPIES Doctor
Another question I've seen is "do we even need to see a doctor?" My personal answer is yes. Even though I was positive it was FPIES, talking to an allergist who was OUR allergist changed everything. Family members (and my husband) were totally supportive when they were supportive but questioning before. My Mom runs around sweeping like crazy when we visit b/c she's so afraid Matthew will get a hold of something. And she makes sure there is no rice in what we eat (I'm EBF and Matthew reacts...

Re: Finding an FPIES Doctor
Great post, Amanda!! I'd like to just add that you can also post a question in here, and have the title say something like "Looking for a GI doctor in (location)" and someone will hopefully be able to point you in the right direction! (I love these smileys!)

Epipens?
An allergist prescribed an EpiPen for my grandson's FPIES. Everything in me is saying this is wrong and dangerous. If this condition is due in someway to a prenatal covid vaccination, being a male child also opens him up to myocarditis. What I have read about epipens is that they should not be used for someone in shock or having a heart issue. Has anyone else out there been prescribed an epipen for your child's FPIES??

Re: Epipens?
This is a common misconception that a child with fpies needs an epipen. I should add that we had two kids with fpies long before COVID vaccines were available (2014, 2016) and before COVID was even a thing to be talking about. So I wouldn’t infer a correlation/causal relationship there. Our fourth has had prenatal vaccines and I had COVID while 39 weeks pregnant and through her first few days with us at home and she has started solids and seems just fine. I always remind myself that if...

Re: Epipens?
Forgot to mention. The allergist who prescribed the epipen said it was only in case of low pressure, but I read that you do not want to use and epipen when someone is in shock or has a heart issue. He also said that there are enough cases of FPIES now that the emergency personnel recognize it and know what to do. He did not give a letter. I don't know that I am very happy with him.

Re: Epipens?
The correlation with FPIES and the covid vaccine is not accurate. Like the previous comment before there would be a huge spike. My allergist did an FPIES challenge and then just gave me a written note for the ER to get fluids and NOT an epi pen. However my pediatrician did prescribe me zofran for when my little one has an accidental feeding of eggs (she has FPIES to eggs). We even got the liquid form of zofran and it works wonders!!

Re: Epipens?
Thank you. I had wondered about ondansetron which I see is the active ingredient in zofran. It is good to know others have used it and who to get it from.
