6-month-old recently diagnosed

Jennifer Giambi ·
Hi all! My 6-month-old son Gus was recently diagnosed as FPIES to rice, as well as having a positive IgE reaction to eggs. We are in the process of trialing foods. I was wondering if anyone could help us come up with a food plan of action. His safe foods are below: carrots sweet potatoes apples bananas pears avocado peas Squash - in the process of testing. He loves to eat and we would like to make sure he continues to grow and get all the nutrients he needs. Any help would be great! Edit: He...

Diagnosing FPIES Advice

BlessedMomma ·
I am seeking some advice for having my Son diagnosed with FPIES from other Moms in Canada. To give some backstory, My Son has currently had 2 reactions to Oat cereal. He had been eating oat cereal at 4 months of age for a week about 1 tbsp with lots of breast milk. I paused giving it to him because he was having stomach cramps so I wanted to rule out the oats as the cause. 2 weeks ago (4.5 months old) when I reintroduced it to him we landed in emerge with him listless and vomiting green...

The reaction is so typical FPIES! Diagnosis is based on history of symptoms. Describe what happened to the doctor. Try vegetable and fruits next. Hold off on grains. When you try, give only a small amount so reaction will be less. We had mild reactions like stomach pain or reflux after food trials, and then after a few times of eating it - vomiting. Good luck!!

Thank you for your response. Thankfully my doctor is familiar with FPIES and has referred him to a pediatric allergist. Unfortunately we could be waiting a couple months for our appointment. So we are slowly trying foods, he has had carrots, and squash. Neither of which he likes but no reactions. We are now trying banana which he is more open to trying, so hears hoping!

Hi Jennifer, My 7 mo daughter was just diagnosed with fpies. We and our Dr's had a suspicion at 5 months. We just started her on Apples this week and then going to Bananas. We are going to try the foods that are not listed as been common triggers and then going from there. We have only had a official diagnoses for 6 days now so we are just building our food plan. I am looking forward to what others say they are doing so we have a better understanding.

Hi, Good luck with food trialing! My 3-year-old son has FPIES (no luck with growing out of it yet- we just failed a retrial). He also ate a ton of avocado when he was younger (it is still a safe food for us). Squash is a common trigger- but since your son already passed sweet potatoes and peas (also common triggers)- he may be fine. Not listed on every site- but bananas are also a common trigger according to our dietician (I found that out after my son had a severe reaction). But, every...

Hi, My little guy is almost 8 months old, and I don’t think he’s ever NOT had diarrhea. Very loose stools, often 7-8 times a day. Safe foods so far appear to be: apples pears bananas hummus peanut butter These foods below seem okay, but he hasn’t had them much yet: carrots peas green beans Definite No’s so far: dairy infant cereals (all types mixed with breastmilk) turkey/chicken We don’t have a diagnosis yet.
