When we first started solids my daughter had oatmeal a handful of times around 5mo, she never seemed that interested in it so we never pushed it and moved onto orange veggies. One night I gave her a little oatmeal and about 3hrs later she started projectile vomiting in her sleep whole eppisode lasted about 2hrs, pedi reassured me that it was probably the stomach bug. We slowly went back to solids after a few days and we was doing great with veggies and fruits... Then about 3hrs later she projectile vomited again to the point she almost passed out and was very lethargic.. called an ambulance and off to the er we went... Still in the ER she was vomiting (basically bile/dry heaving at this point) no one seemed to concerned about it and I was told after 4hrs of vomiting, and then a blow out diaper that she probably had a virus... I was convinced it was from the oatmeal and wasn't a virus and the first time wasn't either... We left and 3days later I found an article about FPIES and in my gut I knew that was what my daughter experienced... I pushed for her to been seen by a specialist and two months later we got the FPIES diagnosis. Now waiting for a food challenge (first available was Feb) and each day I feel more overwhelmed by the limited amount of foods she can have or try. Fingers crossed come February we have a definite on some more safe foods for her!
