Our son is 3 years 3 months old and was diagnosed with FPIES around 7 months. His last reaction was around 9 months, and we have been avoiding dairy (his only trigger food) since then. His reactions have landed us in the ER but have never been life threatening. I've read most FPIES cases clear up by 3 years, but obviously not all of them. Our allergist recommends a trial in his office with an IV in place out of an abundance of caution. With a simple/mild case like we have, I hate making him get an IV if we don't have to. For those with a 'simple' FPIES case like we have, when did your child outgrow it? If dairy, how did you reintroduce (baked goods, straight up milk, etc.)? Thanks!!

My kids have more than 75 triggers but mild to moderate reactions. We trial at home. You have to remember the doctor has to cover themselves from a liability perspective. You have to decide what’s right for your family. Do you handle crisis well? Do you live near a hospital? If in office I would do full tilt the most raw dairy you would normally eat and milk. If at home I would be more conservative and trial then “dairy ladder.”

My son is now FPIES free at 5 years old- it's a miracle!  And my son was like the Murphy's kiddos- failed 50+ foods and barely had anything to eat.  We also trialed at home as my son only had sudden severe reactions as a baby (the only severe reactions as a toddler were if I couldn't find the offending food promptly enough- otherwise mild to moderate). 

As far as dairy goes (yep allergic to that included in the 50+ foods), we trialed yogurt at age 2 and 3 and both failed.  We then tried cheese at age 4 and it passed!  We moved up to 2% cow's milk at 4.5 years of age and it passed as well.  I suggest processed dairy first and moving very slowly.
